DUBAI/RAS AL KHAIMAH — Nearly 32 per cent of the over 10,000 smokers registered with smoking cessation clinics under the Ministry of Health (MoH) have successfully given up smoking, while 10,000 more smokers have pledged to quit the habit this year as part of a nationwide anti-tobacco campaign.

The session, which was organised by Berakas 'A' Health Centre, had three panel speakers, namely Dk Hajah Noralifpahwati bte Pg Hj Jaludin, Nurse in-charge from the Smoking Cessation Clinic; Dr Zurianah Hj Abd Karim, Senior Medical Officer in-charger from Berakas 'A' Health centre and Dyg Norsyahmun bte Hj Metassan, Clinical Psychologist from the Ministry of Health.

DOHA: With the Ministry of Health intensifying its campaign against smoking, more people have been punished for violating the provisions of Law No 20 of 2002, which bans smoking in public places and regulates the import and sale of tobacco and its derivatives.

Anti-smoking poster (Borneo Bulletin)

Posters discouraging smoking were pasted on several restaurant walls in the capital to spread the information on how to help smokers quit the habit. It is another step taken by the Ministry of Health in helping smokers to kick the habit. The posters carry phone numbers to contact to quit smoking.
