Despite the Indianapolis City-County Council's recent failure to adopt a stricter smoking ban for the city, the General Assembly is now considering taking up the measure. Clearly, the issue is not going to go away. From a faith perspective, why should a person consider whether or not to quit smoking?

Smoking ban about to kick in for Navy submarines

Starting Jan. 1, one of the liveliest spots aboard most submarines will wither away into the history books. RIP, Smoke Pit. Its death was scripted in April, when Navy officials announced smoking would no longer be allowed on submarines at sea. The reason: testing showed that despite air filtering, there were “unacceptable levels” of secondhand smoke on submerged submarines.

Smoking ban arrives Jan. 1 for Navy’s submarine sailors

The USS Michigan got a jump on a dozen other Kitsap-based submarines, and its sailors are breathing easier because of it. The Blue Crew of SSGN-727 went smokeless in July, but by midnight on Dec. 31, the rest of the Navy's subs must follow suit.
