OKLAHOMA CITY -- Getting college students to quit smoking is the goal of a new bill at the State House. This week the state senate passed a bill which gives the Oklahoma Board of Regents clear authority to ban tobacco on any public college or university. Right now some universities, like OSU, already have a total ban of tobacco on campus; others, like OU, do not.

After years of failed attempts by supporters, a tough statewide smoking ban could be headed to Gov. Jim Doyle’s desk as early as May 13. The bill, which would end smoking in bars and restaurants in Wisconsin, could be taken up by both the state Assembly and Senate as early as next Wednesday.
